Christus Victor

Making Christ Known

We are an Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) congregation growing in the likeness of Christ by:

Worshiping, praying, and studying God’s word;
Being together with other people; and
Acting in faith through words and deeds both inside and outside our church walls.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Anyone who knits or crochets can participate!  Printed instructions are available.  We also accept Homespun yarn donations.

Food Pantry

We collect non-perishable food all year round.  Once a month a volunteer takes the food we collect to the Community Food Pantry housed at the Elk Grove Presbyterian Church on Elk Grove Blvd and Tonne.

Fellowship Hour

We coordinate the volunteers to host a "Fellowship (half-)Hour" on Sunday mornings between the two worship services.  It's a 30-minute time to have a cup of coffee, a pastry, and conversation.  Volunteers set up and provide food and drink and also clean up afterwards.

Health Kits / School Kits / Sewing Kits

During January and February, we ask the congregation to donate supplies for the Sewing Kits.  Over the summer in July and August, we ask for donations of supplies for Health Kits or School Kits.

We put the kits together and take them, along with the quilts the ladies make, to the pick-up area coordinated by Lutheran Social Services.  We do this on the first Saturday in October.  They, in turn, send them to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to third world countries.

Christmas in July

Starting in July and continuing through August, we collect donations of unwrapped new toys, games, books, puzzles, etc. for sick children who are in-patients at area hospitals.

Soldiers Wish List / Military Family Support

Social Ministry and Christus Victor members show their thanks and support of our actively deployed military   by collecting various needed items to be shipped to our men and women in uniform.  We also maintain a list of congregational members/family/friends that are Veterans.

Deceased Veterans are remembered each Memorial Day with their names on the Sanctuary screen while Taps is played.  Veterans who are separated/retired from service and Veterans who are on Active Duty are recognized each Veterans Day with their names on the Sanctuary screen.  The safety of those on Active Duty are part of our worship prayers.

Shoe Donation

Unwanted and/or used shoes are collected and given a second life – one that has a double impact on third     world countries.  The shoes go to those in need and the funds generated from the sales are donated to purchase Well Drilling Rigs and Water Purification Systems.

Collection Table in the Narthex

These are on-going service projects.  We collect:

  • aluminum pull tabs from cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House,

  • General Mills & Betty Crocker Box Tops for Education and Campbell Soup labels to benefit our community schools,

  • hotel toiletries (shampoo, soaps, lotion) for P.A.D.S. to benefit the homeless, and

  • baby items and supplies for PHD - Preserving Human Dignity.  PHD provides opportunities for hope and growth through professional counseling, education, and support service for women and families facing issues of pregnancy and parenting.

Social Activities

We coordinate various social events such as Progressive Dinners, Road Rallies/Scavenger Hunts, and Chili Bake-Off’s throughout the year.  They are great way for people to get acquainted with each other on a more personal and friendly basis.  These activities are purely social and we are open for suggestions on things to do.

The first Thursday of the month (except in July and December) at the church at 7:00pm.

We are always welcoming new people to join our Committee.  If you are interested and/or have any questions, contact Ann DeBartolo at 847.364.1085.
