Job Title: Payroll and Finance Administrator

Position Reports to: Senior Pastor

Employment Status: Part-time, approximately 5 hours a week (Paid)

Direct Reports: none

Position Overview:

The Interim Payroll and Finance Administrator will handle all CVLC accounts payable and payroll functions.  The Payroll and Finance Administrator will report directly to the Senior Pastor, but will have a significant reporting responsibility to Church Treasurer to maintain communication relative to all financial matters. This individual will use QuickBooks software to enter invoices, add new vendors, print checks, and maintain payable files for the church.  Additionally, twice a month, this person will run hourly and salaried payroll entering any new employees in the system and maintaining current employee information.  Monthly and Quarterly payroll tax reports are required to be submitted electronically to maintain tax compliance, as well as year-end W-2 and 1099 completion. 

Responsibilities:

  • Recording all church deposits.

  • Making vendor payments.

  • Printing any necessary checks, submitting for signature to Executive Council member and mailing/distributing them as needed.

  • Keeping track of all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, etc. via QuickBooks.

  • Running payroll twice a month and preparing pay checks and/or expense report reimbursement(s).

  • Submitting Federal and State payroll withholding taxes - monthly as well as quarterly reports.

  • Responding to any vendor inquiries regarding payables.

  • Creating weekly transactions report from QuickBooks for Church Treasurer.

  • Completing W-2’s and 1099’s at the end of the year for all employees. 

  • Maintaining historical financial files.

  • Maintaining confidentiality as it pertains to employees records and compensation.

Qualifications:

  • College degree or business/finance experience required

  • Knowledge of QuickBooks software a plus

  • Experience in processing payroll preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Job Title: Contemporary Worship Leader 

Position reports to: Senior Pastor

Employment Status: Part-Time (PAID)

Critical Qualities: Leadership, open communication, team player, strong faith, and excellent musician.

administrative Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates the contemporary worship and music ministry of the congregation, specifically, the Sunday 9:00 a.m. “Modern Worship Service.”

  2. Manages scheduling, coordination, and communication for all rehearsals related to the 9:00 a.m. service and other contemporary music responsibilities.

  3. Ensures timely delivery of all necessary information for the weekly 9:00 a.m. service PowerPoint.

  4. Promotes music ministry/worship services through the congregation communication channels.

  5. Organizes mid-week Lenten worship services, including recruiting cantors and a pianist, collaborating with other musicians for special musical additions, and coordinating PowerPoint preparations with office staff.

  6. Plans and leads Maundy Thursday worship service with first communion.

  7. Organizes and leads the 7:00 am Easter Sunrise Worship and the 9:00 am Contemporary Easter Worship Service.

  8. Assists in the Thanksgiving Interfaith Community Worship Service.

  9. Leads and organizes the Christmas Eve Contemporary Worship.

  10. Participate in biannual mapping sessions for future planning alongside the full staff.

  11. Collaborates with pastors on worship service design and attends weekly staff meetings.

  12. Engages in quarterly Worship and Music Team meetings, collaborating with blended (5:00 p.m.) and traditional (11:00 a.m.) worship teams, as well as handbell ensembles.

  13. Selects and purchases music for all ensembles within budgetary constraints.

  14. Maintains and organizes a music library database.

Recruitment and Musicianship Responsibilities

  1. Leads weekly rehearsals and oversees recruitment for the Rizen Band.

  2. Provides musical direction, offering guidance and support to musicians and contemporary music staff.

  3. Engages individuals of all ages in music and worship activities, fostering participation.

  4. Encourages and expands youth involvement in both vocal and instrumental music.

  5. Identifies and recruits instrumentalists and musicians for weekly worship services.

  6. Serves as a key resource for special musical events, including Vacation Bible School and Christmas Festival Worship.

  7. Promotes and participates in music outreach initiatives within the community.

  8. Maintains professional excellence through practice, performance, continuing education, workshops, and staying informed through professional publications.

Qualifications

  1. A servant leader with a passion to know and glorify God, using a team approach.

  2. A trained and experienced church musician with a general knowledge of Lutheran tradition in worship and music.

  3. Demonstrated experience with planning creative worship, leading instrumental groups, and leading the congregation in participatory worship.

  4. Demonstrated excellent ability to communicate effectively with worship and music staff and church musicians, including the ability to prioritize.

  5. Possesses interpersonal skills, including compassionate leadership, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate with others.

  6. Holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in music, or commensurate experience.
