2026 “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” Honorees
We are honored to recognize the following persons/organizations for their support of Christus Victor Lutheran Church at the Annual Awards Dinner on February 27, 2026 at The Belvedere in Elk Grove Village.
Elk Grove Township / John Scaletta
Through the leadership of John Scaletta and the Elk Grove Township Mental Health Board, Elk Grove Township has been a steadfast and transformative partner of A Caring Place. For many years, Township funding has sustained the Health Aide position—an essential role that ensures participants receive the safe, attentive care they deserve. This support creates more than services; it creates a welcoming space where individuals build friendships and engage in meaningful cognitive, physical, and artistic activities. Because of this partnership, A Caring Place has been able to serve our community with compassion and excellence for 17 years—and counting.
Jarosch / Ideal Bakery
For decades, Jarosch / Ideal Bakery has been a cornerstone of generosity for Christus Victor. A trusted partner of our PADS program and, since 2020, our Food Pantry, this beloved Elk Grove Village bakery provides baked goods that nourish both body and spirit. Whether supporting weekly programs or special events, their answer is always “yes.” The owners of Jarosch exemplify what it means to be a community partner, and we are profoundly grateful for their unwavering support and kindness.
Don Kauffold
When longtime PADS Director Ann DeBartolo retired after decades of faithful leadership, Don Kauffold stepped forward in service to our community. As PADS Site Director, Don leads with compassion, humility, and dedication, ensuring that every guest is welcomed with dignity and care. His deep commitment to addressing homelessness has earned the trust and respect of both guests and volunteers alike. Christus Victor is deeply grateful for Don’s leadership and the heart he brings to this vital ministry.
Sandy Mueller
Inspired by The Purpose Driven Life, Sandy Mueller transformed a simple act of hospitality into a 22-year legacy of community care. What began as a small Thanksgiving meal has grown into the Elk Grove Village Annual Thanksgiving Dinner, now serving 900 neighbors each year. Over two decades, Sandy has mobilized volunteers, chefs, and donors to serve more than 11,000 meals, offering warmth, welcome, and connection to all who attend. Her vision, leadership, and heart for community continue to bring people together in powerful ways.
Diane Tegtmeier
Diane Tegtmeier embodies the spirit of joyful service. As the volunteer coordinator for PADS meals—dinners, breakfasts, lunches-to-go, and Summer Suppers—Diane works tirelessly to plan, organize, and nourish both guests and volunteers. She coordinates more than 150 volunteers to provide meals week after week, all while keeping the PADS pantry running smoothly. Her generous heart, boundless energy, and gift for organization make this ministry possible. We are truly honored to celebrate Diane’s extraordinary commitment to serving others.
Mayor Craig Johnson
Under Mayor Craig Johnson’s leadership, the Village of Elk Grove has fostered meaningful collaboration among faith leaders and community partners to strengthen care for local neighbors. By convening and supporting these relationships, Mayor Johnson has played a key role in sustaining outreach programs such as PADS and A Caring Place at Christus Victor. His commitment to partnership has helped ensure that compassionate, community-based services continue to thrive for those most in need.
